When The Gospel Takes Root

September 29, 2026

Have you ever seen a tree standing strong in a harsh environment? The ground may be dry, the wind may be fierce, and yet the tree keeps growing. Much of its strength comes from something we cannot see: roots reaching deep beneath the surface.

Our lives with Christ work much the same way. We often pay attention to what is visible—our schedules, responsibilities, and the things other people notice. But God is also at work beneath the surface. As we put our trust in Jesus and draw near to Him, His life begins to shape our thoughts, choices, and relationships.

When Paul heard about the believers in Colossae, he thanked God for their faith in Jesus, their love for one another, and their hope in heaven. The gospel had taken root, and it was bearing fruit. Paul then prayed that they would keep growing in their knowledge of God so they could walk in a way that pleased Him.

That is a good prayer for us this week. We can know what's right and still need the Lord to shape our everyday walk: how we speak when we’re frustrated, how to love someone who is difficult, and how we respond when life feels uncertain. As we grow closer to Jesus, His life begins to show through ours.

And when we feel weary, we don’t have to produce that fruit by our own strength. Paul prayed that God would strengthen His people with His power for endurance and patience with joy. The Father has already delivered us from darkness and brought us into the kingdom of His beloved Son. We can draw strength from the One who saved us.

Love & Blessings,

Pastor Tim

Living the Word

Take some time this week to consider what your life is rooted in. When you feel pressure, disappointment, or uncertainty, where do you turn first for wisdom and strength?

Bring one area of your everyday walk to the Lord in prayer. Ask Him to deepen your trust in Christ and help His love show through you in that place.

This Week: Reflect and/or Journal:

  • Where do I see the gospel bearing fruit in my life through faith, love, or hope?

  • What is one relationship or situation where knowing  & trusting God’s will needs to change the way I walk?

  • Where am I trying to endure in my own strength instead of asking God for His?
